Klas Böök was the Swedish Ambassador to Beijing 1956-1961 where he and his wife Aina purchased this bowl amongst other things.
Initially he studied at Lund University and at London School of Economics, after which he became an officer in the Swedish artillery reserves at the A3 regiment. He was subsequently employed at Sveriges Riksbank, the Swedish central bank, and continued to have an illustrious career at the Riksbank, culminating in his appointment as its Governor (1948-1951). He then embarked upon a diplomatic career with ambassadorial appointments in Ottawa, Beijing, Bangkok, New Delhi, Colombo, Kathmandu and Bern.
For his services he was granted the following awards:
