More information

This painting depicts a merry company outside the ramparts of the city of Utrechts with left to right Servaastoren, tower of the Servaasabdij and stronghold Zonnenburg. The figures are located where Stadsbuitengrachtens water is expected so geographically, the painting has a fantasy construction.
Adam Willaerts often repeated his figures in his paintings, the man on the left side and the man on the right with the rifle can be seen in other paintings by the artist. The painting was executed on the second quarter of the 17th century.

We are grateful to dr. Laurens Schoemaker of the RKD – Netherlands Institute for Art History, the Hague, for proposing the attribution the painting.
