An Ulla & Gustav Kraitz glazed stoneware sculpture of a bull, Fogdarp, Förslöv, Sweden.

Signed KRAITZ. Length ca 98 cm, width ca 31 cm, height ca 43 cm, mounted on a grey lacquered wooden stand. Stone base included, ready for delivery directly from the Kraitz's workshop.

Gustav and Ulla Kraitz received on the National Day 6th June 2017 H.M. the King's medal for significant in with ceramics.

Artist

Ulla Kraitz (born in Stockholm in 1936) and Gustav Kraitz (born in Hungary in 1926) are two artists who have worked together for more than 60 years. They have different backgrounds and educations; Ulla is a painter and Gustav is a sculptor. The interplay between their creative minds forms a unique artistic collaboration, and over the years they have had exhibitions in Sweden and abroad. Their works are included in museum and private collections or are placed in public environments. The Raoul Wallenberg monument "Hope" outside the UN building, a play sculpture on Roosevelt Island, and benches at Columbus Circle are all located in New York. Some of their works in Sweden include "Kattarakt" at Södertull in Malmö, a statue of Birgit Nilsson in Båstad, "Kudde" in Vasaparken in Stockholm, and a Wallenberg monument outside the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm.

The couple moved in 1968 to their house near Hallandsåsen in Skåne, where they still live and work as active artists and initiators in the region. Gustav has built a unique kiln based on ancient Chinese designs, and they always work together on their ceramic pieces. The technically perfected ancient Chinese firing method allows for a glazing that gives the works a lasting luster and beauty.
