The company was founded in 1893 in Gärsnäs and was called AB Herbert Andersson until 1984, when it changed its name to Gärsnäs AB.
IIn the 1930's, the furniture architect Elias Barup (1910-2001) was employed as the main designer, other furniture architects were also hired from time to time.
