Stuttgart, Köiglichen lithographischen Institut, [Ebner], 1823 [-24]. Oblong folio. Plate size: 50,5 by 58,5 cms. Double-page lithographed title + [6] pp. of text + 18 tinted chalk lithographs by L. Ekeman-Allesson after Kuntz, each with blind-stamp “EBNER” below image.
First edition, very rare. Commissioned by the Board of the Württemberg
Stud, the first Arabian stud in Europe. The plates depict full-blooded
Arabian horses with decorative oriental backgrounds, and constitute
early examples of chalk lithographs.

Bound in contemporary leather-backed green boards, very worn and frayed.
Plates somewhat wavy and with light finger-soiling and foxing, mainly
confined to margins. Faint traces of tissue guards having been attached
in left margin. Three plates each with a tear to lower margin, 7 cms
(plate 4, "Achwerdow"), 5 cms (plate 6, "Dscheran"), and 1,5 cms (plate
16, "Schakra").
