Juliana Maria was the daughter of Duke Ferdinand Albrecht II of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel and Antionette Amalie of Denmark. She married in 1752 to Frederick V of Denmark, which the year earlier had been a widower. As Frederick's new wife Juliana Maria became stepmother to the aspiring Christian VII of Denmark and his sisters, and she had a son Frederick.
