More information

Chinese wall paper were first 'discovered' by the French Jesuits and introduced to Europe by the East India Companies. The fashion for them reached its peak in the latter half of the 18th Century and persisted long in to the 19th Century.

Chinies wallpapers were used to decorated window frames, overdoors, panelling, cabinets, foldingscreens, fire screens, chimney boords and complete rooms.

The painters were ususally retired court painters who settled in the Canton region.
