Provenance

Formerly Sven Artur Svensson (1910-1982), Chief Editor of Allhems Book Publishing. Allhems book publishing in Malmö began in 1936 and ended in 1981. Then about 760 book titles had been published. Founder and owner of Allhems publisher was the publisher and shipowner, etc. Einar Hansen. As editor, Sven Artur Svensson was already employed at the start, then a student in Lund and freelance writer in various newspapers. These two were responsible for the long line of scientifically high-ranking and important research work throughout the publishing period. Both were also dedicated bibliophiles and built up their own book collections of high class.
The great pioneering work at Allhem for Artur Svensson was the publication of the Swedish Artist's Lexicon in five volumes between 1952 and 1967. During the advent of this work, he was both the research leader and the editor of the editorial team, and he also wrote various articles. In 1977 Artur Svensson was awarded The Artur Hazelius medal, mainly for the landscape books, in which there are about twenty thousand illustrations. Four years later, Bukowski's Cultural Prize was given to Artur Svensson. The motivation was: "For the creation of great books in Swedish art history, cultural history and classical archeology. The work has been characterized by his high demands on scientific accuracy, transparency and skillful typographical design."
