Under 1600-talets andra hälft gav franska arkitekter ut kopparstick som visar utformningen av olika väggpaneler. Katalognumrets överstycke var ämnat till att kröna en dörr eller en spis. Förmodligen gav ovalen ursprungligen plats för en oljemålning, inte sällan föreställande husets ägare eller hustru. Auktionens överstycke är rikt skulpterad av en skicklig mästare som drev sitt hantverk till konst, där lövverkets blad och blommornas kronblad vrider sig som om en vind tog tag i deras stjälkar. Dekoren är inte heller uppbyggd statiskt utan är asymmetrisk, vilket ger mer liv åt den.
