Dan Wolgers är en unik i svenskt konstliv. Knappt någon har väckt lika stor uppmärksamhet som han har gjort, genom installationer, ready mades i dadaistisk anda, skulpturer, målningar och fotografier. “Här slutar allmän väg” är än idag det dyraste svenska fotokonstverket på auktion någonsin.
Efter flera hyllade utställningar på 1990-talet, ställde Dan Wolgers 1999 ut ett av sina mest intressanta och ambitiösa projekt hittills: "Nymålat". Han mätte och vägde kända målningar på bland annat Moderna Museet och Nationalmuseum, sedan skapade han lika stora monokroma målningar. Därefter tog han ur ett antal hål i dem, i varierande storlek, tills vikten var exakt samma som originalverket. Inte bara var det en intelligent konceptuellt idé, utan verken hör till de vackraste och mest intressanta han skapat. "Nymålat 1916 - Francis Picabia” som säljs nu, är en av de större i serien.
Dan Wolgers studerade på Konstakademien i Stockholm 1980-1985 och utnämndes till professor 1995. Han satt också i Moderna Museets styrelse och mottog 1999, samma år som detta verk utfördes, Moderna Museets Vänners Skulpturpris. Han representerade Sverige på Venedigbiennalen 1990, på Sydneybiennalen 1992 och på Five Swedes in the Zonnehof, i Amsterdam 1995. Han är representerad på bland annat Museum of Modern Art i New York, Moderna Muséet i Stockholm, Malmö Museum, E Roos Nordiska samling och Statens Konstråd samt med ett stort antal offentliga utsmyckningar och skulpturer i Sverige.

Dan Wolgers is a Swedish sculptor, born in 1955 in Stockholm and educated at the Royal Institute of Art from 1980 to 1985 (he later became a professor there from 1995 to 1998). Wolgers is full of inspiration and humour, a playful Dadaist who experiments with and questions almost everything, and of course, he provokes and shocks the viewer. He was commissioned to design the cover for the Stockholm telephone directory, but instead of creating an image, he placed the phone number for his studio. The directory is now in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. When he was to participate in a group exhibition at Liljevalchs Art Hall, he requested to borrow two benches, which he immediately sold at auction. He was reported for embezzlement and was conditionally sentenced to daily fines. The verdict arrived in the post in a sealed envelope, which he signed and sold for 20,000 SEK. Wolgers puts everything to the test, even the sign "Here ends the public road." "I try to visualise and manifest different aspects of life in my art," he says. "On a personal level, I use my work to try to understand something of what I and others have to do here on earth."
