"Lèda"

Signed Lobo and numbered 1/6, conceived 1945, the cast edition 1/6 was made in 1960. Foundry mark Susse Fondeur Fres, cire perdue. Sculpture, patinated bronze, height 21 cm, length 32 cm.

The work will be included in the forthcoming Catalogue Raisonné of sculptures by Baltasar Lobo, that will be published by Galeria Freites under no 4501.

More information

Den spanske skulptören Baltasar Lobo är främst känd för sina skulpturer föreställande mor och barn. Sina studier bedrev han hos Ramon Núñez som lärling samt vid Museum of Fine Arts of Valladolid. Efter det spanska inbördeskriget flyttade Lobo till Paris där han lärde känna konstnärerna Pablo Picasso och Joan Miró som inspirerade honom till att vända sig från rent naturalistiska och klassiska avbildningar till att reducera skulpturer till sina mest basala former. Sina skulpturer skapade han i både marmor och brons och gärna med blanka ytor.
Lobo var samtida med Jean Arp och Constantin Brancusi men skapade sitt eget uttryck i sina slanka avbildningar av den kvinnliga kroppen. Hans arbeten kännetecknas av en sensibilitet och enkelhet vilket gör att skulpturerna än idag framstår som tidlösa monument.
Sin första soloutställning hade Lobo i Stockholm på Galerie Blanche 1951.
