Gilded bronze. White enamel dial marked "Le Roy Mr de Madame A PARIS" (Bazile-Charles fils, clockmaker to Napoléon I and his mother Maria Letizia "Laetitia" Ramolino (1750-1836). Her titel was "Madame Mère (de sa Majesté l'empereur)". Recamier lying on sofa and with symbols of learning and science. The design of the pendulum is probably after Jacques-Louis David's painting from the year 1800 depicting her. During the first thirty years of the 19th century, she held one of France's most famous literary salons. Length 37, width 16, height 52 cm. Pendulum included. Key included.

Bordspendylen torde vara inspirerad av Jacques-Louis Davids målning från år 1800 föreställande Madame Récamier. Soffans modell med utsvängda gavlar fick namnet Recamier efter denna målning. Julie Récamier(1777-1849) var en fransk intellektuell och salongsvärdinna. Hon höll under 1800-talets första trettio år en av Frankrikes mest berömda litterära salonger. Hon beskrivs som vacker, kultiverad och talangfull. Bland hennes bekanta fanns Karl Johan Bernadotte, Jean Victor Marie Moreau och Germaine de Staël.
