Andreas von Behm föddes i Kristianopel i Blekinge. Efter studier i utlandet, främst i London, kom han 1677 till Stockholm och blev två år senare anställd som "Kabinet konterfejare" hos änkedrottning Hedvig Eleonora. Von Behm var dvärgväxt. Endast ett porträtt av honom är känt; av David von Krafft från omkring är 1700 föreställande honom i allongeperuk. (Statens porträttsamling, Gripsholm). Von Behm stod nära i kontakt med David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl, och överförde flera av hans verk i miniatyrformat.
