A large gilt and lacquered figure of a seated buddha, Qing dynasty, 19th Century.

Seated figure of Bhaishajaguru, holding a medicinbox in one hand and with the other hand raised in 'Abhaya mudra'. Height with wooden stand 74 cm.

Damages. Lotus in right hand missing. Cracks.

Provenance

The figure with an inscription to the base that reads ' Made the 15th day in the fourth month on the first year of Jialong in the ten tousend peace temple'.

From the Collection of Maj och Carl-Axel Persson, Malmö, Sweden, thence by descent.

The wood tested and is from the 19th Century.
