A Chinese blue and white celadon-ground baluster vase with cover, Qing dynasty, Kangxi (1662-1722).

Decorated with underglaze blue roundels of antiquities and flowers with garden rocks to celadon ground carved with quilong dragons amongst peony and stylised foliage. The cover with roundels of antiquities and riverscapes. Height 43 cm.

Purchased at Christie's Amsterdam Chinese and Japanese Ceramics and Works of Art, 19th of May 2004, as part of the lot no 170.
Note from the catalogue: A similar five-piece garniture from the Collection of Augustus the Strong, King of Saxony, is illustrated by Eva Ströber, La Maladie de Porcelain..., Berlin 2001, pp. 108-109, no 46, where the author notes that the garniture was acquired in 1723 from the dealer Madame Bassetouche.
