Arts from the Scholars Studio, Oriental Ceramics Society, 1986. Page 211. Genre paintings depicts a variety of brush rests from this period. Brush rests needed the 'valleys' in which to rest the brush, the mountain form naturally became popular. The most popular was the five peaked rest, representing the Five Sacred Mountains of China.
