More information

Like her husband Isaac Grünewald, Sigrid Hjertén frequently painted floral still lifes.

The art historian and author Anders Wahlgren has written the following about another of Hjertén's floral still lifes: 'The flowers in the vase are arranged in a very consciously colouristic way. Sigrid sometimes rested from her complex scene-like compositions and, as here, devoted herself entirely to colour. The canvas is filled with differently shaped plants. There is a great longing for beauty in the picture." ("Sigrid Hjertén - en av Sveriges främsta konstnärer", Norstedts, 2008, p. 98).
