The Wrangel strongbox, a German wrought iron and steel engraved strongbox dated 1658.

Of rectangular form. Decorated throughout with engraved bands of iron scrollwork of grotesques, genii and archers. The front with a false lockplate. The lid with a concealed keyhole enclosing a lock shooting eight bolts and a pierced steel lockcase engraved overall. Marked "D / G / W / 1658". The bottom marked "Wrede Anjala Rabbelugn". Length 30, width 17, height 18 cm. Key included.

Provenance

The Ihre Collection at Ekebyhov, Ekerö.
According to tradition within the Ihre family, the strongbox is said to have belonged to the builder of Ekebyhov, Carl Gustaf Wrangel.
Inherited by Anna Sofia Ihre (1863-1945) married to Casper Hjalmar Wrede, owned Rabbelugn.
Inherited by her daughter Eva Wrede (1898-1982), who died unmarried and bequeathed the strongbox back to the Ihre family,
Thence by descent.
