An antique silk Tabriz carpet, north west Persia, c 239 × 168 cm
From around 1880-1900. A terracotta coloured ground with large polychrome peacocks, a large tree with monkeys, fish, birds, mascarons and mythological beasts. At the lower end a scene with humans and animals. A wide ivory main border with monkeys, birds, trees, animal mascarons and elephants fighting with dragons.
