More information

After the Battle of Çanakkale (Gallipoli) from 19 February 1915 to 9 January 1916, the Ottoman Empire surprisingly defeated the Entente. Several rugs were ordered in memory of this achievement, and the present rug is likely made by Aramaic rug weavers, just like the kum-kapu rugs. In 2017 a silk 'Gallipoli' rug was sold internationally for 1.7 million SEK to The Australian War Memorial, Canberra.
