Carl Axel föddes 1740 på Gustavsviks herrgård i Värmland. Var student i Uppsala 1750, i krigstjänst 1751. Blev sergeant 1754 och sedan kapten vid Närkes-Värmlands regemente. Gift 1781 Lovisa Regina Geijer (1761-1825) dotter till brukspatronen Salomon Gottschad Geijer.
