Twilight at the Entrance to Sandhamn

Signed Roland S. Pastel, 12 x 35 cm.

More information

In the outer islands of the Stockholm archipelago, Roland Svensson established himself as the foremost interpreter of this landscape's unique character. For more than sixty years, he depicted the seascape, with its islets and rocks, sailboats, and people. He had his studio on Stora Tornö, northeast of Möja. He was constantly hiking or sailing through the archipelago landscape, in search of motifs where civilization meets nature. In the current work, we see the inlet to Sandhamn in blue twilight. Sandhamn is located on the northern side of Sandön, situated near the Sandhamnsleden in the Stockholm archipelago. Its remote location in the outer archipelago has made it a popular resort for summer visitors and a renowned harbor for sailors.
