More information

Sam Samore is an American photographer who works with conceptual black and white images in large formats. In particular, his work explores concepts of privacy, secrets and myths in a contemporary context. Samore's photographs often have a cinematic quality; he is interested in psychology, which probably contributes to the impression that the works are a still from a psychological drama.
He has created several images using different types of photographic equipment usually used by private detectives. The 'Situations' series was created in the late 1980s when he photographed people without their knowledge, taking pictures at surprising angles and situations. Other well-known suites are 'Allegories of Beauty (Incomplete)', 1990s, and 'Scenarios', 2007. Alongside photography, Samore has also worked in film and written short stories.
He has had solo exhibitions at MoMA PS1 in New York and Kunsthalle Zurich, among others. Here in Sweden, Sam Samore has exhibited at the Larsen Warner gallery in Stockholm.
