More information

Endis Bergström (1866–1950) was a Swedish artist, known for her portraits, landscapes, interiors, and still lifes. She studied at the Technical School in Lund, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, and the Académie Colarossi in Paris. During the 1890s, she studied under Richard Bergh at the school of Konstnärsförbundet (The Artists' Association) in Stockholm, which had a significant impact on her artistic development. Konstnärsförbundet, founded as a counterweight to academic ideals focused on individual artistic freedom and was an important platform for modernist movements.

“Skymning vid stugan “(Twilight at the cottage) 1897 captures a tranquil natural scene where the light of dusk creates a peaceful and contemplative atmosphere. Bergström was particularly skilled at depicting the simplicity of nature and everyday life. She often chose to portray "ordinary people," such as maids and workers, which was unusual for her time.

“Skymning vid stugan” is a clear example of Bergström's artistic expression, where she captures the beauty of nature in a calm and serene manner. Through her painting, she managed to combine technical skill with a personal interpretation of the everyday and the simple, making the work both expressive and timeless.
