One vase glazed in yellow, brown to the interior, signed Jouve and with artist's mark. Height 14.7 cm, diameter 14.5 cm, the other vase is glazed in orange, brown to the interior, signed Jouve FRANCE and with artist's mark. Height 10.5 cm, diameter 9.2 cm.
Georges Jouve is considered one of the most important ceramists of the mid 20th century in France. He was educated at École Boulle in Paris. In 1944, Jouve started his first own studio in Paris. He was soon invited to participate in "La Ceramique Contemporaine" by Compagnie des Arts Francais and subsequently took part in several of the recurring exhibitions of contemporary ceramics.
