More information

Beginning in 1931, the Bröderna Malmströms Metallvarufabrik applied their own developed surface treatment, so called Japan oxidation, to their brass lighting fixtures. Japan oxidation became a signature for their products and was used for over 25 years, meaning it was present well into the late 1950s. The special surface treatment was the result of the company's long-standing efforts with chemical experiments conducted in the galvanizing department of their factory. Japan oxidation commanded a price approximately 10 percent higher than regular oxidation.
