More information

Arthur Percy made his debut together with his friends Einar Jolin, Isaac Grünwald and Einar Nerman in the exhibition "De unga" in 1909, at Hallins Konsthandel in Stockholm.
Since Arthur Percy was born and raised on Öland, he often found inspiration in his art from the landscape and the surroundings, which the auction's painting is a brilliant example of.

Arthur Percy made a name for himself as both a designer and an artist during his lifetime. Only 16 years old, he contacted Karl Nordström, who at the time was a teacher at the Swedish Artists' Association's school and managed to be accepted as a student.

Arthur Percy was a schoolfriend of Isaac Grünewald and was taught by Richard Bergh and Eugène Jansson, artists who advocated a traditional approach to art and were far removed from the new trends in Europe. In the company of other young painters, both Arthur Percy and Isaac Grünewald therefore travelled to Paris in 1908 to study under Henri Matisse at the Académie Matisse.

In Paris they were able to study at close quarters the art movements that were emerging in this metropolis, and Arthur Percy himself developed a colourful, expressive painting that stood in stark contrast to Swedish classical painting.
