Skorstenen är ett motiv som är ständigt återkommande i Svenungssons konstnärskap och har med åren blivit hans signum. Serier med skorstenar har sedan 1990-talet ställts ut i form av installationen på ett flertal institutioner däribland Moderna Museet i Stockholm och Nylistasafnid/Living Arts Museum i Reykjavik samt på Galleri Engström, Stockholm. Moderna Museet har ett verk med skorsten i sina samlingar, donerat av konstsamlaren Fredrik Roos.
