More information

"After David saw this session, his manager Tony Defries said to me, 'David thinks you see him the way he sees himself... you see him through his own eyes'. It was the moment that sealed our working relationship, two months before the release of the Ziggy Stardust album. After that all bets we're off!" - Mick Rock.

David Bowie lived in a flat with his family at Haddon Hall in South London from 1969 to May of 1972 so it can aptly be called the birthplace of Ziggy Stardust. Portraits taken at Haddon Hall, first reproduced in magazine features written and photographed by Mick Rock in the spring of 1972.

Mick Rock was born in London in 1948 and is known as “The Man who shot the seventies.” As well as David Bowie, he has photographed Lou Reed, Queen, Iggy Pop, Roxy Music and Blondie. He also produced and directed music videos for the classic Bowie songs: “John, I’m Only Dancing”, “The Jean Genie”, “Space Oddity” and “Life On Mars?”. Rock has had major exhibitions in London, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.
