An 18th century French parcel-gilt silver tasse du vin (wine taster).

Round with decor of French lilies and coat of arms on the body, at the bottom an inset coin depicting King Louis XVI from 1786, also a thumb grip with an inset coin featuring Louis XVI of France. Engraved text on the side: "Ant. L. Seguier 1790". Length 11.5 cm, diameter 8 cm. Weight approx. 120 g.

The engraving possibly concerns Antoine Séguier (1768-1848) who was a French nobleman and first president of the court of Paris.
When the revolution broke out he was deputy prosecutor at the Paris parliament. He emigrated with his father in 1790, first to Savoy, Wiesbaden, Mainz and then Tournai.
He returned to France in 1799 or 1800.
