More information

Few names in Persian carpet weaving command as much reverence as Seirafian. Originating in the historic city of Isfahan, the Seirafian family workshops have, since the early 20th century, defined the very notion of quality and refinement in contemporary Persian weaving. Founded by Haj Agha Reza Seirafian in the 1930s, the family established a tradition that would set the benchmark for precision of design, harmony of colour, and the exceptional finesse of knotting.
Seirafian carpets are celebrated for their use of the finest kork wool and pure silk highlights, often woven on silk foundations. Designs typically draw inspiration from the Safavid court carpets of the 16th and 17th centuries, reinterpreted through a modern artistic sensibility. The drawing is invariably crisp and balanced, with floral arabesques and medallion compositions executed with astonishing detail—often exceeding a million knots per square metre.
Each member of the Seirafian family established a distinct workshop, and over the decades their signed pieces have become highly sought after by collectors worldwide. The best examples—such as the present carpets—embody the pinnacle of modern Isfahan weaving: superb technical execution, flawless colour harmony, and a luminous surface that testifies to both the mastery of the weaver and the enduring legacy of one of Iran’s most renowned carpet dynasties.
In recent years, Bukowskis has achieved notable success with carpets from the Seirafian family, reflecting a growing international appreciation for their artistry. We are now delighted to present a distinguished selection including works by Sadegh Seirafian—among them a magnificent example woven entirely in silk—as well as pieces by Hossein Seirafian, the rarest of Haj Agha Reza Seirafian’s sons to appear at auction, and Ali Seirafian, whose refined compositions continue the family’s celebrated legacy.
