The Swedish jeweller family started their business in St. Petersburg in 1791 and established themselves in Sweden in 1916. Bolin early on specialised in jewellery and silver items of the highest quality, quickly building a reputation as the foremost jeweller in St. Petersburg. The firm became renowned across Europe, and in 1916 they opened their doors in Stockholm. W.A. Bolin continued to be one of Sweden's leading jewellers throughout the 20th century and, in addition to jewellery, they are also well known for their exclusive enamel works and silver items. Since its inception, Bolin has been the court jeweller to no fewer than five Russian tsars, a tsarevna, and three Swedish kings. There are parallels between Bolin and Fabergé, united by a distinctive elegance and a high level of craftsmanship.
