An 18K gold and carnelian thimble

Height ca 19 mm, weight 4 g. With indistinct Swedish marks, likely 1797. A fitted case is included.

Provenance

Emilia Uggla (1856–1938) was married to the Swedish author and Nobel laureate Verner von Heidenstam. The marriage, which lasted from 1880 to 1896, was marked by both love and difficulties, but Emilia remained close to her husband during his early years as a writer. She accompanied him on travels in Europe and was part of the cultural circle that surrounded him. After the divorce, Emilia lived a quiet life away from the public eye. She is buried at Övralid, the place that later became Verner von Heidenstam's home and grave.
