Brittany coast
Signed Carl Johansson and dated Finistère 91. Oil on canvas 21 x 40 cm.
Like his contemporaries, Johansson studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, and in 1885 he joined the opposition movement and exhibited with them. At the same time, he completed his studies at the Academy. From 1891 to 1892, Johansson stayed in France, and this painting was created during that time. During this period, Johansson initially painted a lot from the areas around Finistère in Brittany, where several paintings were produced, and later from Montigny-sur-Loing, in northern France, in Fontainebleau.
