Miniature. Signed Gillberg. f. and dated 1797. Gouache on ivory 7.5 x 6 cm. Mounted in a silver frame. In a case lined with morocco with the inscription F Pauli, Stockholm.

Johan Christoffer Pauli was a merchant and ironmaster as well as the owner of several trading ships. From the 1790s, he was one of Stockholm's most important exporters. Around the turn of the 19th century, he operated a trading house with Johan Fredrik Wahrendorff.
