Björn Springfeldt served for a period on the scholarship committee of the Carl Axel Valén Foundation. Below is the citation for the scholarship awarded on March 27, 2019, to Joakim Ojanen, which also included an exhibition at Eskilstuna Art Museum in August of the same year:
“Joakim Ojanen is a rare figure among Swedish artists in that compassion and humor dominate his visual world. In paintings and sculptures, we encounter figures that seem to wonder how they ended up here, yet still try as best they can. They do not provoke loud laughter, but rather a smile and a sense of empathy, and one is warmed from within. It has aptly been said of his work that it awakens the inner child within us. These qualities mean that his artistic practice is gaining increasing attention internationally as well.”
