A stoneware bowl, Royal Copenhagen, Denmark 1960s.

The textured exterior with a brown iron oxide glaze, smooth interior with an olive green glaze, signed in underglaze blue with the three waves and model number 22124, DENMARK in green, incised with the artist's signature. Height 14 cm, diameter 19 cm.

Melike Abasiyanik Kurtic was a Turkish ceramist. She graduated in 1955 from the Department of Arts and Crafts at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. She went on to study at Herman Kähler's factory in Næstved in 1963 and thereafter, from 1963 to 1966, she worked at Royal Copenhagen, and between 1967 and 1968, Kurtic studied glazes at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Thereafter, she worked with photography and other visual arts from the various places in Europe where she lived.
