Edward Thorp Gallery, New York.
The American contemporary landscape painter April Gornik lives and works in Sag Harbor, NY. The painting in this auction, “Out of Twilight,” was painted in 1982 and acquired from the Edward Thorp Gallery in New York, just one year after her debut exhibition in 1981 at the same gallery.
April Gornik writes on her website her artist’s statement:
I am an artist that values, above all, the ability of art to move me emotionally and psychically. I make art that makes me question, that derives its power from being vulnerable to interpretation, that is intuitive, that is beautiful
In 1984, Gornik exhibited at the American Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and in 1989 at the Whitney Biennial in New York—the biennial that sets the tone for American contemporary artists. In 2015, one of April Gornik’s works was included in the Museo Grimani’s exhibition in conjunction with the Venice Biennale.
April Gornik’s works are included in numerous museums and private collections, primarily in the United States.
