Jewellery firm in Stockholm, founded in 1855 by Carl Fredrik Carlman. In 1875, the firm was appointed Royal Court and Order Jeweller, becoming the sole maker of insignia for the Swedish royal orders for more than a century. The company remained in the Carlman family for generations, led by Carl Fredrik’s son Ryno Carlman, followed by Sven Carlman and finally Rolf Carlman until 1993. Carl Fredrik’s early works are often characterised by period-specific, magnificent enamel and gemstone pieces, as well as silver objects of high artistic quality. As the firm retained his name after his death, the mark “C.F. Carlman” (or the initials CFC) became synonymous with Swedish luxury production throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
