The postoffice in Kiruna, Sweden (LKAB).
The current wall sculpture was created by Pierre Olofsson in 1964 for the post office in Kiruna.
During the 1950s and 60s, the artist had several assignments as a special colour consultant for LKAB in Kiruna. Among other projects, he painted the old "bachelor hotel" Jerusalem. Originally, the facade colour was dark, probably Swedish red or brown, which is typical for the 1920s. The building received its distinctive colour scheme of light pastel tones in green, brown, and grey during the 1950s under the guidance of Pierre Olofsson. The building is set to be moved in 2026, and extensive preparations for this are currently underway.
The buildings in the Provtagaren block, on LKAB's land, originally served important functions such as a bank, post office, and telegraph station. The block previously housed several older buildings that were demolished during the clean-up in the 20th century, with café Safari and the post office on Meschplan remaining until 2023.
