More information

Carl Josef Alexandersson was born in 1887 in Motala and died in 1941 as a result of high blood pressure. He and his two siblings, Gustav and Märta, all became artists and together formed the group "Nio Unga," which exhibited at Liljevalchs in 1926.

The three siblings exhibited together at the Konstnärshuset in Stockholm in 1938. Alexandersson painted in a naive and realistic style with strong contrasts. At times, he depicted, in a muted colour palette, the harsh life of poor workers in factories, while at other times he dreamt of the Garden of Eden populated by exotic animals or a throng of people in a carnival atmosphere.

In the charming and life-affirming "Badstranden," there is a bustling scene filled with figures in various situations. A naive painting with a large dose of humour, fundamentally contrasting Alexandersson's darker side!
