1963 återfinns Henri Sert i Stockholm, författaren Ivar Ahlstedt upplåter sin skrivarlya på Västerlånggatan i Gamla Stan åt honom. Som utlandsjournalist var Ivar Ahlstedt berest och världsvan och hade besökt många exotiska platser. Han planerade en resa till Madagaskar vilket intresserade Sert då denne Växte upp på La Réunion som ligger just utanför Madagaskars kust. Här planterades i Serts hjärta ett frö som snart skulle bära frukt i bilder som flödade av energi, exotiska fåglar och djungelmotiv i starka glödande färger precis som i auktionens målning utförd under hans sista levnadsår 1964.
