The Algerian-born artist Guermaz moved to Paris in 1961 and became a valued part of lyrical abstraction. The painting in question is likely from the mid-1960s when Guermaz painted facet-like prisms in contrasting colours. He is now regarded as one of the founders of modern art in Algeria.
