More information

Gustav III chose to distribute jewels and rings to various individuals who had supported him during the revolution. About a dozen variants of these rings are known. Who manufactured them is unknown as none of the rings are hall marked, which suggests that the king himself commissioned them. Objects made of precious metal were subject to state control marking, which meant that they could only be sold on the market after being marked. Only the king had the ability to personally commission and gift unmarked gold objects.
