Mario Buccellati, the founder of Buccellati, began his career in 1903 as an apprentice with the goldsmiths Beltrami e Besnati. With roots in a well-known family of goldsmiths and jewellers – which included the 18th-century master Contardo Buccellati – he developed an exceptional sense for the craft early on. His works were distinguished by their distinctive surfaces, meticulously engraved details, and the signature “15 MI,” one of Milan's oldest markings. In 1919, he took over Beltrami's business and began establishing his own shops under his name in cities such as Rome, Florence, and New York. Throughout his career, he created exclusive jewellery for prominent European families as well as for high-ranking ecclesiastical figures. After his passing in 1965, the company was carried on by his sons Gianmaria and Federico. Today, the brand is run by Andrea Buccellati, Gianmaria's son, who continues to preserve and develop the family's unique style and craftsmanship tradition.
