More information

Jan Lundgren (1934–2017) was a Swedish silversmith born in Kiruna and educated at Konstfack in Stockholm, graduating in 1953. From 1958 onward, he worked as an independent designer with his own studio in Stockholm. Lundgren participated in numerous exhibitions, including the Montreal World Expo in 1967 and the Craft Centre in London in 1969, and created public works such as church silver for Hagalund Church. His work is represented in several museum collections, including Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Norrköping Art Museum, Gävle Museum, the Harness Racing Museum in New York City, and the Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum in Trondheim. Although rooted in traditional craftsmanship, Lundgren’s work can be viewed in light of postmodernism, where the boundaries between art, design, and function became increasingly fluid. His objects reflect a dialogue between artistic expression and utility, highlighting how postmodern perspectives reshaped the understanding of decorative arts as both cultural and artistic practice.
