Art Deco, or Arts Décoratifs, is a classicising decorative style whose name originates from the 1925 World's Fair in Paris (Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes). The style emerged earlier, already in the 1910s. Art Deco is characterised by a stripped-down design language featuring geometric shapes, bold colours, and contrasts. Inspiration was drawn from antiquity and the opening of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. The early 19th-century Empire style was also reflected in the forms of Art Deco. In Sweden, the style was somewhat more restrained, and the architecture is often referred to as "20s Classicism" or "Swedish Grace."
