Two well sculptured pale celadon and russet jade sculptures of boys, Qing dynasty, 19th century.

A pale celadon figure sculptured as a young boy with a mandarin duck. Height 4.5 cm. The other a pale celadon and russet jade figure of Liu Hai with his three legged toad on his shoulder. Height 5 cm.

Provenance

From the collection of Sylvia Hurtig (born Armstrong Morris) (1926-1996), thence by descent. The collection was brought together mainly in the 1960’s. Sylvia, born in England, Newscastle-on-Tyne, but living in Stockholm had a particular passion for jade and during her frequent visits to London she acquired the pieces from Christie’s, Sotheby’s as well as from Bukowskis and through the Swedish/Armenian antique dealer Solberger, Tegnérgatan, Stockholm.
