More information

This example is an X-series (i.e. circa 1991), sold in 1993 according to the accompanying certificate, and features a so-called “Cream Non-Rail Dial”.

Originally white, the Polar dial on this example has developed a distinct cream-coloured tone across the entire dial, rather than only on the aged tritium hour markers. So-called Cream Dials on early 16570 models have attracted increasing attention from collectors in recent years. An early example with a so-called Rail Dial was sold by Phillips in 2019, and Cream Non-Rail Dials have also appeared with dealers and on various collector forums over the years. There are, however, differing opinions as to whether the colour change seen on certain examples is the result of natural ageing or whether the dials have been subjected to various forms of manipulation to achieve the characteristic colour.

The dial also displays various condition issues in the form of spots, which are visible in the images and should be taken into consideration when assessing its condition. Bukowskis cannot guarantee that the dial’s present colour and appearance are solely the result of natural ageing.

With its early X-series production, unusual cream-coloured Non-Rail dial and documented sale in 1993, the watch represents an interesting and uncommon variant of the Explorer II ref. 16570.
