Hamilton Ventura was introduced in 1957 and became one of the most distinctive wristwatches of the post-war era. Designed by the American industrial designer Richard Arbib, its dramatic asymmetrical case reflected the period’s fascination with futurism, space-age design and new technology. The Ventura was also groundbreaking technically, being among the earliest battery-powered electric wristwatches and a radical departure from the traditional mechanical watch.
The present example is cased in 14K yellow gold and features the characteristic black dial with electric pulse motif and “PAT. PENDING” designation. It is powered by Hamilton’s caliber 505, an improved electric movement introduced in the early 1960s.
The Ventura gained further iconic status through its association with Elvis Presley, who famously wore a yellow-gold Ventura in the 1961 film Blue Hawaii. The combination of Richard Arbib’s unmistakable design, pioneering electric technology and its connection to Elvis has made the Ventura one of Hamilton’s most recognisable and collectible models.
